Hexagon Lights vs Honeycomb Lights: Are They the Same?

Search for ceiling lighting for a garage or detailing studio and you will meet three names for what looks like the same product: hex lights, hexagon lights and honeycomb lights. Buyers reasonably ask whether these are different systems. In practice the names describe the same idea, and the useful differences are in how a particular system is built and configured, not in what it is called.
What the names mean
A hexagon light, or hex light, is a six-sided outline made of LED tubes. A honeycomb light is several of those hexagons joined edge to edge, so the cells share sides the way a honeycomb does. Most products sold as "hexagon garage lights" are in fact honeycomb grids: a single hexagon is rarely enough to light a working space, so the kit arrives as a set of cells.
"Hex" is simply the short form. Hex lights, hexagon lights and hexagonal lights all describe the same shape, and the word honeycomb tells you the hexagons are joined into a grid rather than hung as separate fittings.
How the grid is built
The system is modular. Straight LED tubes form the sides of each cell, and connectors join the tubes at every corner. Because each tube and connector is a separate part, the same components can make a single cell, a 14-cell ceiling or a framed shape, and a failed part can be replaced on its own rather than replacing the whole light.

Open grid or framed?
An open grid has no perimeter, so it can follow an awkward ceiling and be extended later by adding cells. A framed layout fixes the outside dimension first and gives the ceiling a defined edge, which suits showrooms and studios where the ceiling is part of the design. Specifications to compare
Whatever a seller calls the product, compare the things that change the result: the grid count and overall size, the rated power of that exact configuration, the input voltage and the colour options. Are hex lights and hexagon lights the same thing?

Can I start small and add cells later?
With an open grid, yes: cells are added with the same tubes and connectors. A framed layout has a fixed outside dimension, so plan its size up front.
